planning for Next Writers Workshop at Flower Mound Library

The last mini workshop was so well received, the folks at the Flower Mound Public Library have asked us to come back to do it again. So, planning is underway and a date is yet to be set. If there is something you would like to see included in this upcoming mini workshop, please write us. We look forward to see you again very soon.

dFW Writers 11/7 Workshop A success

With the assistance of the great people at the Flower Mound Public Library, the FMWG help it first workshop meeting in more than a year. Based on the reaction of the more than 25 people attenting, the event was a wonderful success. Local published author Seth Ginsburg (non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and numerous songs) was a great inspiration to those attention. His main message: "It's all about the process, we write because we have something to share and say. If you focus on the big book deal, you are missing out on half the fun"

David Bernstein presented a motivational exercise on how to bring characters to life by adding details and back story material. Again, the material was well received. We closed with some Q&A and many asked "When is the next session"? Truth be told, I don't know. But the library was so impressed by the turn out that I think you can aniticpate another session in the near future depending on what other programs the library last planned.

Flower Mound Writers Give $1,000 in Cash Prizes to Denton ISD students

Thanks for the effort of many teachers, administrators, and our very own Tracey Levine, the FMWG offered cash prizes to students participated in an essay contest during this past school year. Students were asked to write a 1,000 word essay on "Overcoming Adversity". Judges came from the school district and FMWG members. The first place winner and the recipiant of $500 cash prize was Ms. Jenni Marshall from Ryan High School. Second place winners from Guyer High School were Ommara Akram, Schuyler Dale, and Mikayla Martin; each receiving $100. Our Third place winners, also from Guyer High School were Joshua Ferris, Hannah Ellis, Baktawar Hafiz, and Kalee Measles; each receiving $50.

The reception to the contest from students, teachers, and parents was overwhelmingly positive and it was a pleasure to be on hand to make the award presentations. I firmly believe this is where the FMWG can continue to make an impact in our community and I hope some of you will want to get involved with next year's program.
